WOODLAND HILLS, CA – Quarto Valley Records announces the signing of acclaimed blues rock guitarist / singer Sean Chambers and to release his label debut CD "That's What I'm Talkin About" in tribute to the legendary former Howlin & # 39; Wolf guitarist Hubert Sumlin. on June 11th.
The Florida Chambers, recorded in March 2020, just before the coronavirus shut everything down, went to Showplace Studios in Dover, New Jersey for the sessions of his 8th album. This is what I am talking about. It was developed and produced by Showplace owner Ben Elliott, who suddenly passed away shortly after the album was recorded. In addition to Sean Chambers (guitar, vocals) and members of his band, That & # 39; s What I & # 39; m Talkin About also features guest appearances by acclaimed keyboardists Bruce Katz and John Ginty. The 11 tracks on the new CD include 10 songs that Sean regularly played on the street as a member of Hubert Sumlin's touring band, as well as "Hubert & # 39; s Song," a Chambers original that Sumlin welcomes. The music shows a tour de force of Sean's blazing guitar pyrotechnics.
"This album pays homage to my mentor and friend, the late great Hubert Sumlin," says Sean Chambers. “In 1998 I was called and asked if my band and I would be interested in joining Hubert at & # 39; Blues Stock & # 39; support in Memphis. Of course I was honored and said yes. The band and I spilled the songs for about a month and played with Hubert for the first time in October 1998. It was a magical night for me and the chemistry between us and Hubert worked really well. After that show, Hubert asked if we would become his full-time group. My band and I played and toured with Hubert for over four years. I look back on this time with Hubert as my "college education in the blues". "That's what I'm talking about" was a phrase Hubert said a lot, so we thought it would be an appropriate name for this album. Ben Elliott, who developed and produced the album, sadly passed away shortly after this session, and it would turn out to be his last project. The picture in the album package of Ben and me behind the mixer was the last of us as we listened to the tracks we had just recorded in the hope that Hubert would be proud. My two previous albums, Trouble & Whiskey and Welcome To My Blues, were also recorded with Ben Elliott. He was a great friend and partner in the business and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew and worked with him. I will always be grateful to both Hubert Sumlin and Ben Elliott and I will never forget all the work we did together and all the lessons I learned from both of them. The music will always live on and I hope you enjoy this album as much as we did. "
Sean Chambers will embark on a post-COVID tour with his band in support of the new CD in the US, Canada and Europe. He currently lives in southwest Florida with his wife Karen, who handles his merchandise sales during the tour.
“I'm bringing back my old bassist Todd Cook, who played bass with Trouble & Whiskey and Welcome to My Blues. New touring drummer Andrei Koribanics was the drummer on the new album "That's What I'm Talkin About" and played percussion on "Trouble & Whiskey," "says Chambers of his new touring band.
