The relationship between pegboard nerds and Monstercat is the gift that always passes on.
The Scandinavian bass music duo has long been a favorite of Monstercat believers and has released music at a dizzying pace over the past decade on the high-performing indie electronics label. Tracks like “Disconnected” from 2012 and “Weaponize” from 2016 continue to be washed into DJ sets and music festivals by their dance music contemporaries.
Pegboard nerds have now returned to Monstercat with a captivating single called "Shine" that appears under the "Uncaged" banner of the imprint. The new track, a drum & bass hit, was produced in collaboration with the electronic music duo Sophon, the side project of Alexander Odden from Pegboard Nerds and the producer Subsquare. Listen down below.
"It's kind of a perfect Scandinavian sandwich of drums and bass, crowned by the retro gaming-esque leads, chantable hooks and high production quality that pegboard nerds are known for," the duo said in a joint statement. "We've always been into drums and bass, but it's fun to just go all-in on a track like this a few gigs during the pandemic so far, but on every single one," Shine "has the crowd went mad. It was a sight for sore eyes in those shitty times. "
"We look forward to the first Sophon release on Monstercat," added Sophon. “It was a lot of fun working on it. Alex and I share a lot of melodic sensitivities since we grew up in the 90s with a lot of dance and trance music – wise and & # 39; Shine & # 39; is the first track where we used BitWig Studio throughout. "
