Songwriter and native Texan Hayes Carl has always been one of those cats who sat in this changeable, indefinable “Americana” space right on the periphery of country music, as someone like Townes Van Zant or Guy Clark, who always put songwriting first and himself second was concerned with the genre. But Carll comes out and says his country roots are coming to the surface with his upcoming album You Get It All, due out on Dualtone October 29th.

"I like to pull on my heart, find common ground with others, reflect on my own life, and sometimes I do it in a carefree way," says Carll. “Many styles of music found their way onto this record, but my first and most defining influences came from country music. This is a country singer-songwriter record. It is only unmistakably me. "

Of course, in addition to building his own musician career, Carll has contributed to some of the big country music names as a songwriter, including Lee Ann Womack, Kenny Chesney and most recently Brothers Osborne. While composing the new album, Carll heard the influences of guys like Dylan and Tom Waits in his head as well as Randy Travis, Hank Williams Jr. and Kenny Rogers.

The album co-wrote the likes of Sean McConnell and Brandy Clark, who were also featured on the track "In The Meantime," but of course most of the music was written by Carll himself. You Get It All was written by Hayes Carll's wife and fellow songwriter Allison Moorer produces with Kenny Greenberg. Hayes calls Allison Moorer "… a world-class artist who helps me articulate my vision."

Allison Moorer also seems to be the inspiration for the title track of the recently released album. Part love letter and part apology, it's Carl's submissive proclamation to Moorer (hear below).

"I hope this record helps people feel good about themselves, laugh a little, and maybe give them something to lean on when they need it," says Hayes Carll. "I hope they dance to it too."
