Calls for diversification in the music industry have been growing louder in recent years but seem to continue to be ignored by the majority of festival organisers. Now organizers of a new electronic music festival in London have made the biggest leap yet by planning a groundbreaking event that they hope will move the needle in the right direction for representation.
The festival's ethos, called Risen, revolves around the celebration of the spiritual concept of the divine feminine. Risen will not only be directed by women, but will also feature a lineup made up of all women, trans and non-binary artists. The lineup is brimming with talent and features over 90 artists including Angel D'Lite, Hannah Holland, Heléna Star, Madam X and many more.
In an interview with the Evening Standard, Kitty Bartlett, Senior Booker and Events Manager for Risen, explained the aims of the festival.
"Risen is a festival run by women to showcase the emerging talent that works so tirelessly in the music industry, be it DJs, event managers, graphic designers, lighting technicians and so on," said Bartlett. "It's time for a new energy."
Risen will take place in London on April 9th at various locations around Hackney Wick. Here you can find more information about the festival and register for tickets in advance.
