It has now been over a year since Eddie Van Halen died in October 2020. This month, a week before his 57th birthday, his first wife will publish a book that touches on her relationship with the legendary guitarist.
Valerie Bertinelli is entitled Already Enough: Learning to Love the Way I Am Today. “I loved Ed more than I can explain. I loved his soul, "she said. “We were portrayed as imbalances. The bad boy rock star and America's darling, but privately Ed wasn't who people thought he was, and neither was I. "
Bertinelli is not afraid to address Van Halen's drug abuse problems: “I hated drugs and alcohol, but I never hated him. I saw his pain. "
Even after the separation, the couple remained in excellent shape. Bertinelli recalls that the musician spoke to her privately in 2019 when he presented her with a bag containing a gold bar.
"I hope you don't find it strange, you know, that I bought my ex-wife this present and didn't give anything to my wife," he said to her then. "I just love you." "He wants me to know he screwed it up (during our marriage)," notes Bertinelli. "I've also contributed to our problems and I'm sorry too."
Bertinelli also talks about the last moments between her, Van Halen and her son Wolfgang. They were in the hospital every day with Eddie's wife Janie Liszewski and brother Alex.
"'I love you" are the last words Ed says to Wolfie and me, "reveals Bertinelli," and these are the last words we say to him before he stops breathing. "
