He may not be a "Sk8er Boi", but Marshmello is sure to be a superstar – especially after his recent songwriting work for Avril Lavigne's new track "Bite Me". It was released on November 10th and is the lead single of Lavigne's upcoming seventh studio album, due out in 2022.

"Bite Me" is a classic pop-punk anthem based on Lavigne's distinctive sound from the early 2000s. It's hard not to get nostalgic about afternoons spent browsing the shelves of Hot Topic and headbanging to the tunes of Sum 41 and Good Charlotte.

Marshmello received songwriting credit for the single, which also features contributions from Omar Fedi, perhaps best known for his work with Lil Nas X and The Kid LAROI. Other contributors include Goldfinger singer John Feldman and Lavigne's current friend MOD SUN, a well-respected pop-punk and alternative hip-hop artist.

“It was just about time to rock again, and I have a lively side to me,” Lavigne said in a recent interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music 1. “Let's face it, love isn't easy, is it? I went through the ringtone so I'll write about it again. "

"It's an anthem about knowing your worth, what you deserve and not giving a second chance to someone who doesn't deserve you," added Lavigne in a press release.
