A few deserving bands from the Texas and Red Dirt side of the country are finally being earned, with opportunities to come to join the sacred circle of the Grand Ole Opry. It's just the latest sign that things are opening up a little under Dan Rogers' new Opry management.

Since the release of their debut album Humble Folks in 2015, Flatland Cavalry have been considered one of the best new bands in the world by Texas and Red Dirt. Their 2021 album Welcome to Countryland, which is not brand new anymore, was well received and performing on the Grand Ole Opry stage on October 22nd will only help to continue their current momentum.

Originally formed in Midland, TX and then known in Lubbock, many Flatland Cavalry members, including frontman Cleto Cordero, now reside at least partially in Nashville. Being under the same roof as Grand Ole Opry member Luke Combs probably didn't hurt putting this moment on the bucket list for this well-deserved band.

Jason Boland has waited a little longer for this opportunity. Jason Boland, an early loyal Red Dirt who always kept it more country than some of his contemporaries, is working on his third decade of music making with his backing band The Stragglers, and playing the Opry is a dream come true.

Jason Boland recently announced that he is releasing a concept album about alien abduction called The Light Saw Me. The album follows a cowboy who lived in Texas in the 1890s, is beamed aboard a spaceship, and lands back in Texas in the 1990s. The album will be released on December 3rd and on December 7th Jason Boland will take the stage at the Grand Ole Opry for the first time.

For years we saw bands from Texas and Red Dirt sitting outside looking at Grand Ole Opry debuts or opportunities since it's such a Nashville centered institution. But letting fresh, fresh blood from the Texoma scene on stage can only help keep the Grand Ole Opry vital and relevant.

Anyone who cannot be there in person can get involved via WSM online for audio transmission.
