"An inspiration." "A visionary." "A legend."
These are just a few of the awards the electronic music community has bestowed on the late Virgil Abloh after his tragic death on November 28th. The renowned fashion designer, architect and DJ died at the age of 41 after fighting cancer for two years.
Now legendary South African dance music producer and Grammy nominee 2022 Black Coffee has led his own ode to his late friend and coworker: a brand new DJ mix called For My Dear Friend V.
For My Dear Friend V brings together 13 unique house and techno tracks by various African artists, including the fascinating "Emazulwini" by Sun-El Musician and the suspenseful "The Warrior & # 39; s Prayer" by Karyendasoul. It also includes a beautifully layered techno version of "Sweet Disposition" from The Temper Trap by Safar and Neverwaves, as well as "Don't Take It Personal," one of Jimi Jules' latest releases.
“This set embodies the various energies and emotions that 2021 did not fail and will honor you forever,” Black Coffee wrote on social media.
The couple had a long history of performing hypnotic B2B sets around the world, and their relationship extended beyond music. In 2018, Black Coffee commissioned Abloh to design the art school he was building in Johannesburg. Then, in 2019, Abloh's streetwear brand Off-White released a capsule collection known to be inspired by the South African heritage of Black Coffee.
Virgil Abloh and Black Coffee will perform at Hï Ibiza in 2018.

"I think music is obvious, we believe it can save the world. It makes people happy. It brings people together," Abloh said in a video interview that Black Coffee shared on Instagram. "You are not prejudiced. You shake hands with each other. You let someone go."
"We didn't do everything we wanted, but you alone have done selflessly enough to inspire generations and future generations," wrote Black Coffee in the dedication of the mix. "Even when you are physically gone, your passion, love and light will shine through forever. I and many others will carry this spirit in everything we do."
