The journey to the Ultra Music Festival has officially begun after organizers announced the first wave of artists to perform in 2022.
In classic ultra fashion, the festival, which is due to return to its long-standing home of Bayfront Park from March 25 to 27, presents the most popular artists in electronic dance music.
DJ Snake, Martin Garrix, Alison Wonderland, Kygo, David Guetta, Madeon and many more dance music superstars were unveiled today. Other notable gigs at the "revamped" festival include a live performance by legendary drum & bass group Pendulum and a three hour set by legendary techno artist Carl Cox, who will debut his new hybrid live production.
According to a press release shared with worldmusic.blog, fans can also look forward to a closing performance on Sunday by "one of the most iconic artists in electronic music history." The artist's identity is currently kept a secret, but given his storied history with Ultra, Hardwell could be coming out of retirement for the festival's meaningful return. The Dutch dance music icon, who retired from the music industry in 2018, recently teased a return at this year's Amsterdam Dance Event.
The lineup announcement comes after a tumultuous year for Ultra organizers, who found themselves in not only the pitfalls of COVID-19 but also a controversial class action lawsuit from disgruntled ticket holders.
Back in April, Boca Raton-based consumer rights firm Corwin Law claimed that Ultra had "disguised" its 2020 cancellation as a postponement and offered no refunds, but instead offered an expanded package of benefits that the company deemed "totally unacceptable." The situation regarding reimbursements has yet to be clarified, at least publicly.
Corwin Law did not immediately respond to worldmusic.blog's request to comment on the status of the lawsuit.
In May, Ultra announced a historic compromise with the Miami Downtown Neighbors Alliance – a neighborhood organization that represents a dozen apartment communities – to allay disagreements over local unrest caused by the massive festival. The organizers agreed to implement a “Community Standards Program” to address construction plans, park closures, traffic management, noise pollution and other infrastructural issues.
