Motorists in these twenty U.S. cities committed the nation's most touching violations, earning them the title of Worst Driver in America in 2021.

With cities reopening this year, many of us are eager to get "back to normal" after a year of uncertainty and isolation. A semblance of life outside of the lockdown is taking shape as restaurants, bars, concerts, and other large face-to-face gatherings reopen in full for the convenience of many city dwellers.

At least one aspect of pre-pandemic life that most haven't missed is on the comeback: traffic. According to the Institute for Transport and Development Policy, car traffic will increase this year. In certain cases, as of March 2021, the volume of traffic even exceeded the pre-pandemic level.

While it's exciting to have places to go again, the drive to get there isn't always painless. In fact, sharing the road with drivers who disobey the rules of civilian traffic behavior can be downright stressful. Unfortunately, in some cities these naughty drivers are more common than in others. To find out which cities have the worst motorists living in 2021, Insurify's research team referred to their database of over 4 million auto insurance applications.

methodology

To identify the cities with the worst drivers, Insurify's data scientists, a Car insurance comparison Website, referred to their database of over 4 million auto insurance claims.

When applying for car insurance, users indicate their place of residence and domicile as well as any previous violations on their driver's license. Insurify's data scientists compared the number of drivers with one or more record violations (including accidents, DUIs, no-stopping, speeding, reckless driving, overtaking violations, and other indications of illegal driving) to the total number of drivers applying for car insurance in each state in the last year. The cities with the highest proportion of drivers with fault incidents on record have earned a spot in the ranking of the cities with the worst drivers in America.

In this study, cities were defined as “urbanized areas” based on the United States Census Bureau classification, an urban area with more than 50,000 residents.
