Sydney's Enmore Theatre is now immune, bless us all, to noise complaints

Missy Higgins was trending on Twitter today after performing at the New Years Eve concert in Sydney last night.

Higgins played her hits "Scar" and "The Special Two" – as a special duet with Gordi – as well as a cover of The Motels ‘1979 release" Total Control "at the ABC radio event.

After a year with the overarching topic “WTF?”, The fans hugged the “warm hug” from Higgins ‘performance.

"Missy Higgins is the warm hug we all need right now #NYEABC, "tweeted a fan.

“Just got through a hard shift as a contact observer and #nyeabc With Missy Higgins and a scotch is what I need, ”wrote another.

Fans praised Higgins and Gordi for their duet:

Gordi and Missy Higgins singing The Special Two opened a space in my feelings that I didn't know I had. Goose bumps. #NYEABC

People also loved Higgins' cover of The Motels.

“Haha, I couldn't have guessed your choice, but I got 'Total Control' from the motels stuck in my head afterwards Missy Higgins’Brilliant cover on ABC last night,“ posted a fan today.

In fact, it seems like Higgins' shoe choice was the only divisive moment when a fan tweeted:

I respect Missy Higgins and her shoe choice #nyeabc

"I respect Missy Higgins and her shoe choices," while another disagreed with her choice:

Higgins' performance may have hit a nerve for a very simple reason:

Higgins and Gordi were accompanied on stage by Tyne-James Organ, Casey Donovan, Jimmy Barnes (and family), Delta Goodrem, Adam Harvey, Beccy Cole, Budjerah, Tina Arena and Novak from the Polish Club.

Genesis Owusu, which is still listed in the ABC iView Event Replay, was noticeably missing.

Tone Deaf has asked his team for a comment.

The night also featured a unique Welcome to Country, curated by Blak Douglas, who designed the event as an indigenous recapture of the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

“We're taking over one of the world's most famous icons,” said Douglas, noting that the land it stands on has never been ceded.

The 9pm fireworks had a First Nations theme and ended with a live performance by rap duo Barkaa and Dobby.
