Not every season of Austin City Limits is worth a stop these days or has as close a connection to the country and roots scene as it was in the program's heyday. But the first part of season 47 definitely does. On one of the main stages of music, which premieres on Saturday October 2nd, there are quite a few performers who will be worth seeing.

On October 2nd there will be a one-hour set by native Texan Miranda Lambert, who shares the stage with songwriters Jack Ingram and Jon Randall, who repeat tracks from their last album together, The Marfa Tapes. All three of these performers and songwriters were custom made for the Austin City Limits stage.

On October 23rd, the future of bluegrass will be proudly unveiled when both Sarah Jarosz and Billy Strings take the stage. Both performers won 2020 Grammy Awards – Sarah for best Americana album for her project World on the Ground, and Billy took home the best bluegrass album to take home. This is going to be an episode not to be missed.

Then Brandy Clark and Charley Crockett will be paired together on October 30th. Brandy Clark has written some of the best songs in mainstream country over the past few years and is a great performer herself. Born in Texas, Charley Crockett gets his first chance on stage and talks about his growing popularity in country and roots.

Another artist of the season with country and roots ties is Jade Bird, whose most recent album was produced by Dave Cobb and who recently moved to Austin. Texan native Leon Bridges, Brittany Howard, formerly of Alabama Shakes, and legendary Jackson Browne will also appear on the season.

One person we won't see on stage for season 47 is Sturgill Simpson, who was supposed to be recording a bluegrass episode at one point or another. But because of COVID-19 and other conflicts, it never came to that. And now that Sturgill for one torn vocal cord, it may take a while before he can fulfill this obligation.
